OFFICIAL STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  7th June 2010

Condemnation of Burmese regime’s hydropower project in Myitsone, Irrawaddy that bring human rights violations

We, Kachin National Organization, strongly express our condemnation of recent forced relocations and the reckless arrest of innocent Kachin youths and villagers by Burmese military junta in Kachin State.

The regime has started building a series of dams in Kachin State since 2007, without having approval of the local people concerned. The fact that the regime taking no measurable consideration of extreme negative impacts that would cause to the livelihoods of the area due to its action. It clearly demonstrates that SPDC takes into account of nothing but the benefits which would bring them.

While these villagers have all mean of rights to protect their lands, properties and culture heritages, none of these have been considered by SPDC. In addition, there is no compensation or whatsoever in place for the lost and suffering of these villagers. We believe that such treatment by Burmese regime is completely inhumane and unacceptable.

We strongly condemn of the regime’s acts over the recent reckless arrest of Kachin youths without disclosing its ground reason. The fact that SPDC have arrested and tortured Kachin youth and villagers without concrete evidences shows that their actions are in breach of human rights and are not in accordance with the law.

Therefore, we, Kachin National Organization demand SPDC to put an end of forced relocations and stop arbitrary arrest of all the innocent Kachin youths immediately.

It is an only example of SPDC’s an act of  uman right violation. The ethnic nationalities of Burma are facing numerous abuses daily basic by the SPDC’s motto of one blood, one voice and one command. We urge the United Nations to collaborate this case as evidence to trial General Than Shwe and his associates in the International Criminal Court (ICC). We also would like to request the Chinese government to put an end colluding with Burmese regime generals and stand by wishes of Burmese people.

We, Kachin National Organisation urge international communities to act and help people of Burma to bring down such barbaric SPDC, Burmese Military Regime to justice.
